A real leader must be able to lead him/herself before making a change in society. This actually is the basic thought to create and hold CBP’s very first training in the series, namely Self Leadership Training, or broadly known as SLT. This training, unlike the other two leadership trainings in the series (LKIM and LKIL), is segmented for the first semester students of IP, including those from Faculty of Economic and Bussines (IP-FE), Faculty of Industrial Engineering (IP-FTI) and Faculty of Law (IP-FH). IP freshmen from the three faculties were gathered and trained by Pusat Psikologi Terapan UII, a professional psychological training provider from Universitas Islam Indonesia.
Every batch of SLT is always interesting and has its own unique story. For students of batch 2017, SLT was conducted on December 16-17, 2017 in Hotel Kana, Kaliurang. Officially opened by the Director of IP UII, Ir Wiryono Raharjo, M.Arch, PhD., the agenda was two days long, so all of the students must stay in the hotel and interact with other students from other faculties. Creating friendly interaction among IP students in the same batch is actually one of the goals of this program, but the main purposes are to increase their confidence and optimistic behavior; to make them able to design realistic and measurable life goals; and to make strategies to achieve the goals.
To be able to achieve those purposes, the training provider facilitated the participants with various activities such as creating life goal, evaluating students’ strength and weaknesses, making strategies on how to take benefit from the strengths, drawing map to achieve life goals and many others. The activities were conducted in small group discussion and a larger one. The big group discussion involved all participants and was lead by the main trainer, Mr. Walid, while small group discussions were assisted by 12 facilitators, in which all students were divided into 12 different groups. The small group forum helped students to have a more focused discussion with their facilitator as well as with their fellow learners.
This event ended on Sunday afternoon, December 16, 2017, marked with the closing speech from Dra. Sri Wartini, Ph.D. as the head of IP-Law department. As a tradition, IP always give appreciation to the most active and contributing participants, and this year predicate of SLT best participants went to Fathia Ully from Faculty of Law and Fahrul from Faculty of Industrial Engineering. However, this leadership training is not the end of students learning process. This is just a beginning for the upcoming challenge in their learning journey.
